Do You Learn From the Lord’s Correction?

People typically don’t like the idea of correction. If you were to do a survey, not many people would raise their hands in response do you like to be corrected.

However, correction is one of the ways the Lord uses to develop us into a better person or put us on a path to greater peace and prosperity in our lives.

The Book of Lamentations is a poetic and somber reflection on the destruction of Jerusalem and the suffering of its people following the Babylonian conquest in 586 BCE. Traditionally attributed to the prophet Jeremiah. This whole book is a reflection of what happened to Israel and the Temples of the Lord in Jerusalem. Its a book of reflection.

Lamentations is a powerful expression of grief, repentance, and the struggle to find hope in the aftermath of catastrophe. It captures the raw emotions of a community grappling with the consequences of their actions and the pain of divine judgment, while still seeking comfort and restoration from God.

The Bible speaks to this in the book of Hebrews…

Hebrews 12:5-7

And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,

“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”

Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father?

As we are open to the Lord’s correction and put it into practice in our lives, we will position our lives for more peace, joy and success.
